Through the London Graphics Centre "Shop Art" exhibition, my painting "For you were made from Dust" is available to pre-order for a strictly limited time only as a large-format poster-sized A1 print.

You can order your print NOW until the end of JUNE 2013. After this time Pre-Orders will CLOSE and no-more A1 prints will be offered again. This is a very rare opportunity to own one of my artworks printed on this scale - it will not be offered again. Once printing commences through the London Graphics Centre I will be packaging and shipping all prints to their new homes - exact dates are still to be confirmed.

Hemlig - a secret

After my Solo Show I felt I needed to take a break from my serious, time consuming and detail heavy watercolours. I found myself entranced (yet again) with the porcelain dolls of fellow artist Hemlig (a word which means "secret")

Back in Australia I have a small collection of her Myling dolls, and am particularly drawn to her sugar skulls and ghosts. Working with many similar themes (ghosts, conjoined twins and anatomical references) right now myself, I found the intriguing little characters she creates the perfect muses for some quick illustrations whilst I've been abroad.

 

This is the same style I use when sketching out costume ideas (my side "business" is sewing petit couture for dolls) and I find it refreshing to work in a simpler, more charming style for a change.

Here is the little "portrait" I painted of her doll Breathmint, and the thank-you that brought a smile to my face in return...

Doll Face

Long time followers know of my little doll collecting habit/obsession/weakness. Having been a full time artist for the past ten months (aka unemployed, traveling, and sometimes drawing) I can’t give in to my selfish yearnings, and make do with sketching little portraits of them instead. 

The following three might make a cameo appearance at the Baroque Ball this weekend too...

Smoke and Whispers

I like whispy girls. Girls with hair made of mist and wind, eyes of smoke, and hushed whispery voices.

With this in mind... you can imagine, I am sure, how delightfed I was to aquire Mark Ryden's latest beautiful Art Book, with luxurious full page details of the paintings from his last show, the "Snow Yak" series.

Posed with the pages here is my own little whispy porcelain art-doll made by Marie's Garden.

My prints featured alongside Enchanted Doll

Earlier this year I completed 9 original artworks as a competition entry for Enchanted Dolls. I never thought I would actually see them in use the way I had intended them, fitting perfectly into the (old) Enchanted Boxes.

Can you imagine my bursting joy and overwhelming pride when I saw one of my works featured in this video for Marina's latest show, "In Wolves Clothing" at the ShowSpace Gallery in London.

Marina just posted a new shot of Silk Road, one of her dolls travelling to New York for an exhibition... I am utterly speechless and delighted to see another of my drawings as the backdrop!!

This has made me so happy, and it delights me so to see that she has chosen the prints that echo the dolls the most. For "Beauty" she chose my version of "The Vessel", covered in pale blue flowery tattoo's to match her doll, and for "Silk Road" she matched her with a similarly henna painted depiction of "Shapeshifter/Kia".

Do you know the feeling when for one reason or another you suddenly feel yourself looking at your own work in a despairing way (yes, it happens to me, and can drag on for weeks unless there is a shift in circumstances) then like a small miracle, a few things align themselves to overjoy you and restore your hope.. Marina showing my drawings with her dolls, and the recently completed art-trade with Nati being such a success have been such miracles for me. I'm thrilled and touched and so so so so honoured.

I created the series earlier this year as part of the 2010 Enchanted Doll Birthday Competition hosted by artist Marina Bychkova, and the entire project took me 3 months to complete! So it is a good closure, to get them up in etsy, ready for new homes.

The Beauty of an Original #13

I'm very happy to introduce the latest member to my art-doll collection!

She was the first art-doll I've purchased pretty much the same day that I discovered her existence. All the others have come with weeks to months of deliberating. But there was something about her that I knew was perfect, and I didn't want to um-and-ah and miss out on her, no no, I had to have her! She reminds me a little of the white haired girls of Mark Ryden...

The artist is a lovely South-Korean girl named Seo. Unfortunately, I cannot pass pass on too much information about her, as our language barriers collided. We communicated mainly via lots of smileys to punctuate expressions: ^_^

"Swan Girl" or Leda, as I have nicknamed her, is entirely made of porcelain (bisque). Her limbs, tiny delicate fingers and toes are gently blushed with China paint, giving a glowing warmth to her skin. She came with the most incredible hand-made costume, but my favourite detail has to be the feather glued to her scalp as her "hair" peeking out beneath her bonnet.

After purchasing her over Etsy, there was a long delay, because Seo wanted to re-make her costume. I didn't mind, so patiently waited. The end result is incredible. Tiny leather booties, with miniature eyelets to lace them up, a ruffled and exquisite tutu, sweet little bloomers, beautiful lace-up corset.... the attention to detail, care, and extensive work that went into it is just phenomenal.

Both Victoria and I are now avid doll-collectors, and scour Etsy for fresh muses, but I would comfortably say that Seo's dolls are truly something unique and very special. She was the sort of purchase I had to go into denial over (did I really just do that, oh my god I must be crazy) but seeing her in person, and the sheer amount of work that Seo put into this incredible doll, she is precious.
