Vacation Mode

I've mentioned it before, but my little art-blog here will be going into vacation mode for a while.
I'm travelling to Europe on Monday for about 6 months. I do plan on sketching the entire time ....I'm certainly taking enough art materials to encourage me to do so.... if only for the sole reason of giving purpose to lugging them around with me!
The frequency of my updates will rely mainly upon sporadic access to the internet (I won't be lugging the laptop with me), whether it eventuates by me hassling the kind and giving families that I will be staying with, or hassling the internet cafe's that I may come across.

I'll be trying to upload shaky photographs of my drawings here, and will be trying to keep everyone updated on ye olde FB as well.

Travel itinery so far consists of a 34 hour trip from Australia to Hungary. If I manage to survive that, I'll then be gallivanding about on two Organic Farms for a month each, and bothering a very generous friend who managed to somehow convince her family against all reason and better judgement to adopt me for a month and a half. Then the winds will take me where they will, with hazy hopes of ending up somewhere in Italy for Novemeber.

Etsy Shops are closed, I just made my last post office run, my bags aren't yet packed, I'm giving out hugs and stealing kisses, and I'll see you all soon! muah x

Preview of what's to come...

A glimpse at the inspiration behind the next artwork I've been planning. This quote by Eduardo Galeano captured my imagination the moment I heard it, and I knew instantly that I wanted to draw it.

Recently my later pieces have been a lot more "illustrative" - in that they have been a lot more heavy in narrative content. Whether inspired by a quote, poem, or even a concept or an isolated emotion, I have been trying harder to capture a strong sense of something having just happened, or glimpsing the instant before something dramatic is about to take place.

My vision for "We are all mortal until..." would definitely be such a piece. I knew instantly the two friends whom I wanted to ask to model for the final artwork. I brainstormed for a few weeks on possible locations, then in the name of art I was forced to accompany a beautiful young lady to a small Sydney laneway bar and drink wine, laugh, and generally make a ruckuss moving furniture around. But the staff were all very accommodating, so I have part two to look forward to (I decided to pose the two models on separate occasions)

With a skimpy two weeks till I leave I think the actual execution of the artwork will have to wait till I return, getting the reference material together will be enough fun in the meantime.
